Q&A With Our Director of Primary Recruitment
Hi everyone, I’m the Director of Primary Recruitment! I am originally from Denver, CO but have traded in the snow for year round heat in the lovely state of Arizona. I am a senior majoring in Women and Gender studies and went through recruitment in fall 2020, which was undeniably the best decision I’ve made during my time here at ASU!
What about your experiences as a PNM and a recruiter made you feel passionate about this position?
Going through recruitment was such a nerve racking experience for me as a PNM. While it was nerve racking, it was also very exciting getting the opportunity to talk to so many different women and try to figure out where I felt my home was. When I recruited last year, I grew to understand the importance and impact of recruitment on chapters. It’s all so exciting, having the opportunity to meet new women who are going to help grow your chapter and sisterhood. Once I realized that, I knew I wanted to be the person to help lead it!
If you could pick one round of recruitment, what would it be and why?
I would pick Sisterhood round! I loved sharing stories about all the fun times I’ve had with sisters with PNMs last year. Even when doing recruitment workshops this past spring and hearing chapter members stories about each other and the adventures they have gone on has given me so much perspective on how beautiful and genuine our sisterhood is and I just can’t wait for our sisters to have the opportunity to share that with PNMs this fall!
What has been the most rewarding about your position?
What’s been most rewarding to me is seeing the bonds that our sisters have either developed or built on with each other. Even myself, getting to know our newer members better, has been very fulfilling. In my opinion, having a strong sisterhood is key to a chapter’s success and I’m truly grateful that I have been able to lead and help foster the growth of ours this past year in the aspect of recruitment.
What advice would you give to a potential new member?
Be yourself! I know everyone says it, but it’s crucial. Being yourself is such a beautiful thing, and that’s how you’re going to find a home in the Greek community that genuinely works for you. It’s all very hectic, but it’s so much fun! In addition to being yourself, just always be open to new opportunities and people and be confident! Everyone is so amazing in so many different ways, just embrace that during recruitment and you’re going to do great!
Fall Recruitment
The formal recruitment process allows potential members to visit each sorority and to find a group of women that feels like their home away from home. At the end of each round, chapters will select potential members to invite back to their next event and potential members will prioritize their selections as well. This mutual selection process allows for the best fit for both the chapter and the new member.
