Hi! My name is Piper and I am the Director of Philanthropy for Alpha Delta Pi. The philanthropic organization ADPi supports is Ronald McDonald House Charities. RMHC is a wonderful and unique organization that provides a home away from home for families with children undergoing critical pediatric care. As treatment for children can last anywhere from one day to a month, or longer, RMHC is able to lessen the financial weight of housing. Located near world-renowned pediatric centers, RMHC is able to provide temporary housing at no cost to the families; allowing the families to focus on being a family and caring for their loved ones rather than stress about finances.
“Many families travel far from home and spend several weeks or months to get treatment for their seriously ill or injured children – a long time to be away or to divide a family. And, for children facing a serious medical crisis, nothing seems scarier than not having mom and dad close by for love and support. A Ronald McDonald House provides a place for families to call home so they can stay close by their hospitalized child at little to no cost.”
At Gamma Rho, we are very fortunate to be able to volunteer at the three RMHC houses of Central Arizona. At least once a month we have sisters go to all three houses and cook dinner for the families staying there. Some other ways we are able to support RMHC is through donation drives, collecting toys, clothing, cleaning supplies, food, and anything else the families may need to feel more comfortable and at home; as well as making cards, making goodie bags, and collecting pop tabs! We also host semi- annual philanthropy events were all proceeds go to the RMHC houses. Some past events include Pie A Prez, were members of several other Greek organizations had the opportunity to pie their presidents.
Through my position and being a sister in ADPi I have been able to see the tremendous impact small things like cooking dinner or writing cards have on families. It is a truly one of a kind experience and I am so grateful to be apart of it! <>
